Concerts From Home: NPR Tiny Desk Concerts That Satisfy Our Cravings
Posted on 10/8/2021 by Weideman Pediatric & Orthodontics
There are a lot of things that COVID-19 impacted, one of them being the lack of concerts to ensure social distancing. As of right now, most musical artists have postponed albums and tours leaving us with a craving for more music and live music. Fortunately artists have been and are continuing to record their music live and publishing it for us to see. One of these ways is through NPR Music Tiny Desk Concerts in which artists and bands perform live for NPR employees in the space of a work desk. These concerts have been going on for years before the pandemic and continue to happen at “Home Tiny Desk Concerts” currently. All NPR Music Tiny Desk Concerts can be found 0n YouTube and I've listed a few of my personal favorites below.
*Warning: some tiny desk concerts contain profanity and mature content. Some concerts give warnings before proceeding with the video and others do not. To ensure the content is appropriate for some audiences, it may be beneficial to know the musical artist and their songs beforehand.
Paramore: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert
Paramore, like many other bands, had to make adjustments in their sound for the sake of fitting in the desk space. Regardless of this alteration, their style stays the same and their performance is unique. Through their performance, you can see that Hayley Williams and the band are really passionate about all aspects of their original songs.
Coldplay: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert
This performance by Coldplay added a small choir to their songs that make their sound even more heavenly. I think the reason that I love this tiny desk concert so much is the energy that all of the musicians have together–you can tell that the music they are performing is bringing them closer. I love seeing musicians in their element and communicating together through music and this concert is a prime example of that.
Dua Lipa: Tiny Desk (Home) Concert
Due to the pandemic, Dua Lipa and her band had been separated for some time. This setup is different from the typical tiny desk concerts, allowing the performers to form a circle where they collaborate together. You can see how happy they are to be back together and performing again.
These are some of my favorites, but there are so many concerts that are available online. When you're at home and wishing you could buy concert tickets, these videos are a great way to get the music and experiences you've been waiting for.
